Repair

Something that broke.

It is live, and it is failing, drifting, overspending, or frozen because nobody dares touch it. I find the fault, fix it, and leave it in a state where the next person can work.

Faults this covers

Failing

It errors, times out, or falls over under load

The visible kind. Usually the fastest to reproduce and the easiest to be honest about.

Drifting

It runs, and the output has quietly stopped being right

Model changes, prompt rot, stale context, silent retries. Nothing alarms because nothing crashed.

Expensive

Spend climbed and nobody can point at the cause

Retries, oversized context, an agent loop with no ceiling, or a cache that never actually caches.

Frozen

It works, and nobody on the team will change it

No tests, no notes, one person who left. The system is fine until the day it is not.

How it runs, in order.

One

Reproduce the fault

Nothing gets proposed until the failure happens in front of me. If it cannot be reproduced, that is the first finding and you get told.

Two

A written diagnosis

What is broken, why, what it takes to fix, and what I would deliberately leave alone.

Three

Fix it and show the evidence

The change ships with the before and after that proves it worked, rather than an assurance that it should.

Four

Leave it changeable

Notes on what is still fragile and what to do next, so the next incident does not have to come back to me.

Where this thinking came from.

Three of the projects in the field exist because a system was wrong in a way nobody caught.
